Vertigo in children
Abstract
The aim of the study was to search for the reason of vertigo in children who complain of it. 30 children who were treated by pediatrist beacuse of various diseases were tested. The detailed protocol of anamnesis, videonystagmography, posturography and additonal tests ordered by pediatrist were performed. The results were compared with the group of 30 healthy children. Respiratory system infections, gastritis and spondylosis were the most often diagnosed by pediatrist in young people with vertigo. In videonystagmography only 4 types of pathological reactions were observed. These were: positional nystagmus, cervical nystagmus, abnormal eye-tracking test and square waves. Only 40% of children demonstrated objective signs of vertigo. Posturography gave not specific results comparing with healthy group of children. Authors discussed the probable reasons for vertigo, among which the psychogenic origin, side effect of medicaments, hormonal disturbances, spondylosis and diet errors had to be taken into consideration.
