Audiograms and auditory evoked magnetic fields (AEFs) were observed in young male and female adults at different ages before and after being exposed to discotheque music for 4 hours. Sound pressure levels (SPLs) ranged from 95 dB (SPL) up to 130 dB (SPL).
We summarize our clinical experience with intratympanic dexamethasone treatment (IDT) for control of tinnitus. From March 2000 through February 2001, 54 patients (23 females, 31males; mean age 49,6±7,2 yy; range 24-71 yy) suffering from subjective idiopathic tinnitus (SIT) have been observed. After that the common audiological tests had been performed, all the patients underwent to […]
Obliteration of cochlea either by fibrous or osseous tissue is not a rare occurrence in cochlear implant candidates and it was once considered a contraindication to cochlear implantation (Balkany 1987; Luxford 1987). Obliteration may occur as consequence of the pathology of meningitis, chronic otitis media, severe otosclerosis, autoimmune inner ear diseases and temporal bone traumas. […]
INTRODUCTION: Tinnnitus is a real therapeutical emergency for ENT clinicians, one of the biggest problem is to have the opportunity to start giving drugs as soon as possible; we started from a few mounths a new kind of e.v. therapy and we realyzed that it gives good results in an unbilivable percentage of cases and […]
It’s well known that the accurate localization of the source where subjective tinnitus comes from is very difficult. The anamnesis and the traditional audiological tests can often suggest if its origin is peripheral and/or central only. Therefore several Authors, as Risey, Denk and Shulman, have recently proposed picking out the source of subjective tinnitus through […]
The cranial shifting of body fluids developing in microgravity can be modelled by –300 head-down tilt body position (antiorthostatic posture) on Earth. Authors examined a group of 13 healthy voluntary young men in antiorthostatic posture and recorded the alteration of parameters in complex examinations. Among them pure tone threshold and speech threshold examinations were carried […]
Tinnitus is a pathological event caused by abnormal stimulation of any point along the acoustic pathway. Generally it has a sharp tone accompanied by hearing impairment. Currently no widely-used standard protocol for treatment of this condition exists and vascular microthrombotic factors are considered as the main determinants. Prompted by such observations, we implemented a protocol […]
