Pitfalls that otolaryngologists are often caught in diagnosis

We have been clinically treating vertigo patients for the last 45 years. As you all know vertigo is not a simple otolaryngorogic disease. In fact, it is associated with various diseases in various clinical fields including internal medicine, neurosurgery and ophthalmology. International Tinnitus Journal – ITJ, go to http://www.tinnitusjournal.com/ As an otolaryngorogist, we have learned […]

Spontaneous resolution, after superselective angiography, of pulsatile tinnitus resulting from dural arteriovenous fistula

We present an unusual case of subjective right-sided pulsatile tinnitus that resolved spontaneously within a few weeks after diagnostic superselective angiography. The possibility of dural arteriovenous fistula should be kept in mind even in subjective tinnitus. Conventional angiography may be the only modality that shows the abnormality. Stato-acoustic complaints and neurootological findings

From a major group of neurootological patients in our data-bank NODEC IV we have selected a group of patients who had suffered rhino-fronto-basal skull fractures. Some anatomical features lead to the concentration of cranial fractures to the base of the cranial vault. In case a strike hits the head frontally, forces coming from the face […]

The contribution of otoneurological evaluation to tinnitus diagnosis

Tinnitus has been reported for nearly 80% of patients referred to the otolaryngology services. Usually, its evaluation is based on tonal and vocal audiometry, tympanometry, brainstem-evoked potentials, electrocochleography, and otoacoustic emissions. However, as the cochleovestibular system works as a unit, the use of vestibular tests has been proposed to evaluate tinnitus. Many patients with tinnitus […]

Neurootological test profiles in workers with noisy and chemical environments

Our modern public health prevision scheme deals with the protection of workers’ health. This is necessary to reduce or eliminate hazards due to work. Industrial accidents and unsafe working conditions may result in health disturbances, acute or chronic illnesses. Chemical, as well as physical hazards amongst external sources lead to untoward changes in health. Hazards […]

Huspatrac – a method of measuring and visualizing human space trails of movements and accelerations of head, neck and body

Since many years we are using the local positioning system of ultrasound computer cranio-corpo-graphy (US-COMP-CCG). The patient is carrying a helmet with 2 ultrasound markers and a shoulder fixation with 2 other ultrasound markers. A computer unit is triggering the ultrasound impulses. Backwardly and above the patient is the ultrsound receiver unit containing several ultrasound […]

Intra ear catheter (iec) – 3 years experience

On the ENT Dept at 3rd Medical Faculty of Charles University Prague has been used 15 IEC for the therapy at chronic tinnitus. The succes ratio is evaluated by the mean of visual analogue scala (VAS) and by tinnitometr i.e. by meassurment of intensity (dB) and frequency (Hz) of tinnitus. Duration of tinnitus oscillated between […]

Eng outcome and neuropsychological findings in tinnitus patients

Psychological aspects are often underlined in generation of tinnitus so we assessed the neuropsychological status in our group of patients. We also found increased number of abnormal ENG recordings in tinnitus patients so the aim of this study was to compare the ENG outcome with their neuropsychological status. The study was carried on 69 subjects […]

Appearance and characteristics of tinnitus in childhood

The appearance of tinnitus has risen clearly also in children within the last decades. 1550 children were questioned as to whether they have tinnitus. A total of 131 children said at the interview that tinnitus had appeared or was still present. The most frequent information was the progression of an existing hardness of hearing followed […]

Dizziness, hearing loss, tinnitus and nausea in otosclerosis

Neurotologic patients may present with a variety of chief complaints. It is not unusual to present with primary presenting symptoms of dizziness, hearing loss and tinnitus. Unusual in presentation is nausea without dizziness. A common finding as the fundamental etiology in many patients is the eventual diagnosis of otosclerosis …….
